Maui's Whale Watching Season Approaches

Maui Condo Rentals

While many people imagine all their fun vacation time taking place over the summer, there are many perks to visiting Maui in the winter. For one thing, summers are warm if you're in the northern hemisphere. Winters are cold, unless you're on Maui. The island is a great opportunity to escape the more frigid times of the year. Winter is also the time when Maui's largest guests arrive: the humpback whales.

Maui is renowned for some of the best whale watching in the world. Between the months of November and February, these behemoth mammals come to the islands to breed and give birth before returning to the poles to feed. Humpbacks are one of the largest whales in the world, with males ranging between 40-48 feet and females between 45-50 feet in length. Take it from us, if you happen to be standing on the deck of a 25 foot boat and watching an animal twice that size gliding by below you, it is a life-altering experience.

While the size of these giants is intimidating, they are gentle and placid creatures. It is common to hear their hauntingly beautiful songs if you happen to be snorkeling or ducking a wave in the winter months. While you are whale watching, some common sights include spouts, lob-tailing, tail-slapping, flipper slapping and a variety of other interesting behaviors. You may also see some adorable calves who's diminutive stature at birth is a mere fifteen feet in length and two-thousand pounds.

Maui is a favorite spot for these whales, and an oceanfront condo rental is often the perfect viewing platform for whale-watching. Check our up-to-date condo rental availability calendar to find which units are available on which days. If you plan to drive around to different spots for whale-viewing, we can direct you to good Maui car rental companies. See our Maui information section to learn more about the island in general. If you need anything, you can email us at Rentals@KaanapaliBeachRentals.com for information on our vacation rental condos or Ken@KaanapaliProperties.com for real estate related questions. Thanks for reading this week! Aloha!
