Santana Concert on Maui
By Kenneth Rothman
Santana fans will be excited to hear that there's an upcoming concert on Maui on February 28th. Carlos Santana's music will probably be remembered for generations, so why miss an opportunity to see him perform live on your Maui vacation?
A fun fact about this incredible musician and singer is that he was the first to perform in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's (MACC) Alexander & Baldwin Amphitheater in 1994. That was 19 years ago, and he has since claimed 10 Grammy Awards. He has sold over a hundred million records and performed for a hundred million fans at concerts.
If you attend, you'll understand why he has been such a roaring success, assuming you enjoy his unique blend of Afro-Latin-blues-rock. His first Top 10 hit, "Evil Ways" was on Billboard's chart for two solid years before his next two hits "Oye Como Va" and "Black Magic Woman" made it to the charts, which was in turn followed by "No One to Depend On" and "Everybody's Everything." You might be even more familiar with his album Supernatural, which included those songs that earned him 9 Grammy Awards in 1999. That album included "Smooth," "Maria, Maria," and "Wishing it Was."
These many musical achievements have earned Santana a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and rightfully so. Even if his style is not your cup of tea, it is difficult to criticize his skill and creativity.
On February 28th, he will return to the MACC to perform in the new Yokouchi Pavilion and A&B Amphitheater. The show will start at 7:30pm. Tickets are on sale now, unless they've sold out since we aired this blog! Visit the MACC website to purchase them. Prices are $65, $79, $89 with some premium tickets for $129. You can also purchase tickets by calling (808)-242-SHOW. The MACC is located about 45 minutes away from our Kaanapali vacation rentals, but along with many other activities and events on Maui, it should be well worth the drive. Mahalo, and have fun!
