Our travel blog has covered a lot of information about Maui accommodations, activities and general advice for visitors, but one thing we haven't touched on yet is kayaking. Many people look forward to paddling out onto the beautiful, calm water around Maui, whether they want a guided tour, or just to rent a kayak and explore on their own. Some of these individuals prefer this kind of activity over getting in the water, such as with scuba or snorkeling, because they just feel more comfortable above the surface. But don't worry. Even from your comfortable seat, there is so much to see! Kayakers often spot sea turtles, dolphins, humpback whales, and plenty of fish, not to mention stunning views of Maui and the neighboring islands. So here is a quick little guide to some Maui Kayak activities!
West Maui Kayak Tours is a particularly high-rated business, and is also closest to our Kaanapali vacation rental condos. You can ask any questions you might have on arrival, and your equipment will be ready. The trip is a guided tour that involves an hour of paddling, and stops at two snorkeling locations, but you don't have to snorkel if you don't want to. You just need to bring sunscreen and a towel. They also recommend sunglasses, a hat, and a waterproof camera. Price: $65 per adult and $45 per child (ages 5-12).
Kelii's Kayak Tours is located in Kihei, about an hour away from Kaanapali. This one also has plenty of great reviews. They have been in operation for 15 years, and are proud of their flawless safety record. They offer several tour options, including a West Maui tour, a South Shore Turtle tour (which guarantees at least one turtle sighting), a North Shore tour, a Maui Sunset tour, and combos where you can paddle, snorkel and surf, or paddle and hike to a waterfall. See the above link for pricing information on all of these options, and whatever additional information you need.
Maui Eco Tours is very highly rated, and they also offer a number of activities. This business runs tours according to experience. For example, their Discovery tours are ideal for new kayakers and snorkelers, including children as young as 5 years old. For those with more endurance, they recommend their Seacliffs Advanced Paddling Adventure. During the summer, they offer an adults only tour of Honolua Bay. Then in the winter, they offer their Whales Kayak and Snorkel Tour.
South Pacific Kayaks is the last business we will touch on. They offer six kayak tour choices. Like Kelii's Kayak Tours, they offer tours by area and by intended animal sightings. They have a turtle tour, a whale watch tour, and four tours of specific locations, including Honolua, West Side, South Shore Explorer, and Pali Sea Cliff Discovery. They might be the biggest operation out of these four, but are still highly rated. They offer several other types of activities as well, if you are interested.
