The scavenger hunt will set you off on an adventure through the aquarium to learn about the more bizarre kinds of creatures to be found there. There are strange creatures aplenty in marine ecosystems, and many of them are at home in the aquarium, just waiting to be found. Odd appearances, abilities and defense strategies are the trademarks of these animals, so expect some surprises.
The hunt will be held throughout the month of October during regular aquarium hours, from 9am to 5pm. To make the most of your visit this month, we recommend going on a Tuesday so you can check out the hula lesson at 11:45 and one of the Fins & Flippers Tours, which are held at 11:30am and 1pm.
Another option is to visit the MOC on Halloween, when they will have divers compete in an underwater pumpkin carving demonstration inside the Blacktip Shark exhibit at 11:30am and in the Open Ocean exhibit at 1pm. Also, they'll give out Halloween goody bags at the Maui Ocean Treasures gift shop to kids ages 3-12. Their supply is limited, so don't wait too long to snag them for your kids. The scavenger hunt will also be happening on Halloween, so you can participate in that, too.
The Maui Ocean Center is located in Ma'alaea, which is a half hour away from our Kaanapali condos when there's no traffic, but when there is traffic, your drive can be substantially longer, so give yourself some extra time, depending on when you're driving.
