If you enjoy reggae music and you'll be on your Maui vacation later this month, don't miss the upcoming Reggae Summit Hawaii. It's the biggest concert event of the year, with some of the most popular names in reggae music performing on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island. Maui's lineup includes Third World, "Jah Messenjah" Luciano and many more talented performers.
Third World is considered by many to be the most respected reggae band in the world, boasting 10 Grammy nominations and smash hits like “Now That We Found Love,” ”96 Degrees in the Shade” and “Try Jah Love.” This illustrious group is also one of the longest lived reggae bands of all time, maintaining their popularity by maintaining their cutting edge fusion influences from R&B, funk, pop, rock and rap, among others. Perhaps more remarkably, Third World is the only reggae band to be awarded the United Nations Peace Medal on the steps of the Capitol in Washington D.C. in 1993.
Luciano is popularly considered Bob Marley's only "successor" based on his lyrical style and stage delivery. An inspirational song writer and recording artist, he achieved world wide acclaim and cultural icon status after the release of his album Where There Is Life. His work is centered on the quintessential Rastafarian message of equality and justice for all of mankind.
If you want to see these remarkable artists perform live, you'll want to get your tickets as soon as possible, because reggae has long been popular among Hawaii's residents, and the turnout is likely to be huge. It seems that island culture from the Caribbean and the Pacific mix well, if Hawaii's love of reggae is any indication. At the very least, these cultures tend to share a laid back, relaxed style of both living and music, which seems to come naturally to those who live in the islands.
The concert will be held on June 25th at 4:30pm at the Maui Tropical Plantation in Central Maui, about an hour from our West Maui accommodations. You can get more info at mauitropicalplantation.com. If you need any assistance with your vacation accommodations, you'll find our contact information at the bottom of the page. We are happy to help! Mahalo!
